One of the most striking buildings in Odessa was built in 1894-1898 by architect A.Bernardazzi simultaneously with the Bristol Hotel across the street. It had been meant to replace the old stock exchange.
The style of the building is Italian Gothic with some Renaissance features. In 1937 it was turned into a concert hall. Yet the acoustics is not good for performances as it was not meant to be a concert hall; it was built as a stock exchange where you are not supposed to hear the details of a deal negotiated in the next corner of the hall.
The wooden ceiling of the 1,000-seat hall was made without a single nail from Lebanese cedar, goldened and painted.
